Qazi Touqeer  Biography

Qazi Touqeer Early Life and Education

Qazi Touqeer was born on 2 June, with sources differing between 1985 and 1986, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. He grew up in Srinagar and developed an interest in both singing and acting during his childhood.

As a child, Qazi enjoyed performing and often mimicked popular Indian film heroes. His brother would accompany him while he performed and recorded his mimicry acts at the Mughal Gardens in Kashmir.

His interest in music was also encouraged by his family. His uncle, Qazi Rafi, is a well-known singer in the Kashmir Valley and became an important influence and mentor in Qazi’s life.

Qazi’s father, M.A. Qazi, was a lawyer, while his mother, Syeda Rukhsana, worked as a teacher. His family supported and guided his early interest in singing and performance.

Qazi Touqeer studied at Minto Circle School in Raj Bagh, Srinagar. His early education took place in his hometown before he began pursuing opportunities in music and entertainment.

Unlike many professional singers, Qazi did not have formal training in singing before entering Fame Gurukul. Much of his early development as a performer came through practice, family guidance, and his experience on stage.

Qazi Touqeer Career

Qazi Touqeer’s breakthrough came in 2005 when he participated in the television singing reality show Fame Gurukul.

Before entering the show, Qazi had already developed a strong desire to become a performer. He had followed Indian Idol and was inspired by the success of its contestants. He eventually auditioned for Fame Gurukul and was selected from among a large number of participants.

During the competition, Qazi faced the danger zone several times but continued to receive strong public support. His popularity with viewers ultimately helped him win the show.

His victory made him one of the most recognizable reality-show personalities of that period. He was also reported to have received an exceptionally high number of votes compared with contestants from Indian reality shows at the time.

After winning Fame Gurukul, former President of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam reportedly referred to Qazi as the Hero of Kashmir.

Following his Fame Gurukul victory, Qazi Touqeer released several albums and songs and continued working as a singer.

His background in Kashmir and his distinctive appearance helped him develop a strong fan following. During his time on Fame Gurukul, viewers often compared his appearance with actor Hrithik Roshan because of his long hair and light-colored eyes. Qazi, however, stated that he was comfortable with his own identity and preferred to be known as Qazi Touqeer.

Qazi has also maintained his connection with other singers from Fame Gurukul. Arijit Singh, who later became one of India’s leading playback singers, was also a participant on the show. The two have been described as friends since their time on the reality program.

After Fame Gurukul, Qazi continued appearing on television. In 2009, he participated in the reality television show Sarkar Ki Duniya, which was hosted by actor Ashutosh Rana.

His television appearances allowed him to remain connected with reality television while he explored other opportunities in acting and music.

Qazi Touqeer also pursued acting after establishing himself as a singer.

In 2009, he was offered a role in the film Take Off, which marked his film debut. During rehearsals for the movie at Ganesh Acharya’s studio, he reportedly suffered a serious neck injury after falling.

His acting journey added another dimension to his career and allowed him to move beyond singing and reality television.

Qazi has also worked as a YouTuber and continued creating and sharing content for his audience.

In 2015, he appeared in the song Afghan Jalebi from the film Phantom, featuring Katrina Kaif. The appearance brought him back into the spotlight in connection with a major Bollywood production.

In 2026, Qazi Touqeer entered Bigg Boss 20 as a contestant. His participation in the show marks a return to the reality-television format that originally made him famous more than two decades ago.

Having first gained national recognition through Fame Gurukul, Qazi brings considerable experience of reality television to Bigg Boss 20. His journey from a young performer from Kashmir to a reality-show winner and later an actor and singer gives him a distinctive background among the contestants.

His entry into Bigg Boss 20 also gives a new generation of viewers an opportunity to become familiar with the performer who became one of the most talked-about reality-show winners of the mid-2000s.
