Zeishan Quadri Biography

Zeishan Quadri Early Life and Education

Zeishan Quadri was born in 1983 in Wasseypur, Dhanbad, then a part of Bihar. He grew up as the youngest child in his family, with two elder sisters. His father, Syed Imran Quadri, worked in a private company, and the family maintained a middle-class lifestyle in the coal-mining town of Dhanbad.

Zeishan did his schooling in Dhanbad before moving to Meerut, where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. From a young age, he was fascinated by cinema and storytelling, often drawing inspiration from the rustic environment and real-life characters he observed around him in Wasseypur. After completing his graduation, Zeishan moved to Delhi, where he briefly worked at a call center and later joined HCL, a multinational IT services company.

Though he was earning a stable living, his passion for films never faded. In 2009, he decided to leave his corporate job and shift to Mumbai to chase his dream of becoming a filmmaker, despite having no formal training in cinema. His small-town upbringing and keen observation of society would later become the foundation for his unique storytelling style.

Zeishan Quadri Career

Zeishan’s breakthrough came with Anurag Kashyap’s cult crime saga, Gangs of Wasseypur. He not only wrote the story but also co-wrote the screenplay and dialogues for the two-part epic. The films, released in 2012, gained international acclaim and were even screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

His portrayal of the character “Definite” in Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 further established him as both a talented actor and storyteller. His writing earned him several prestigious awards, including recognition at Filmfare, IIFA, and TOIFA for Best Dialogue, and the SAIFF Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Following this success, Zeishan expanded his career into directing and producing. In 2015, he made his directorial debut with Meeruthiya Gangsters, a crime comedy inspired by real-life incidents from Uttar Pradesh. He also ventured into production with films like Prague and later produced Halahal and Chhalaang.

As an actor, he appeared in projects such as Revolver Rani, Hotel Milan, Setters, Your Honor 2, and Bloody Daddy. Additionally, he has been active in the digital space, working on web series like Bicchoo Ka Khel and Bhoot Purva.

Today, Zeishan Quadri is widely recognized as a multi-talented writer, actor, director, and producer, known for his raw, realistic narratives that bring small-town India to life on screen. His journey from the coalfields of Dhanbad to the forefront of Bollywood storytelling is seen as an inspiring example of how determination and originality can carve out success in the film industry.
